Not all Summer Seedlings are frost tender.

Everyone wants to start gardening when the first flowers start to bud, but reality strikes when random frost kills a few of your newly planted Summer Seedlings.

Here are a few must plant hardy Seedlings even when a bit of frosty days are still to come:

Petunias Bravo or other annual varieties (As seen in the photo above)

Dianthus Chiba or other annual varieties (Available in different colours)

Alyssum white, pink or purple (Snow Crystal is my favorite)

Gazania Gazoo or other annual varieties (any colour imaginable)

Here are a few Vegetables you can also plant even if frost is still near:

Spinach Fordhook Giant or Swiss Chard

      Beetroot varieties

      Spring Onions

Onions (Australian Brown or Texas Grano)

Cabbage (Summer varieties)(you also get varieties that grow better in Winter)

      Carrots

Lettuce winter crisp, frilly varieties (it is still too cold to plant butter lettuce varieties)

Remember with all seedlings planted use your favourite potting soil mix.
I found the most awesome fertiliser to use with almost anything, it used to be called Bounce Back, now they call it Bioganic All Purpose (

    https://www.plantarium.co.za/shop/Bio-Ganic-All-Purpose-5kg-p106559985

  ) made by Atlantic Fertilisers.
They have other fertilisers as well, but I found this one works well for the whole garden.
Here's the link to the rest of the fertilisers (

  ).
Just mix in a handful of the All Purpose fertiliser in each of the pots or area that you are planting.
As the plant grows the plant will reach the fertiliser and thrive. (Note to all, just remember it is organic so there is a chance your dogs will love the fertiliser too).
Daar is steeds tyd
tot middel Julie om wintersaailinge te
plant. Pansies vir son en Primulas vir
skaduwee.
Don’t water later than 15:00, the
plants could freeze and die during the night.
Hou die luise dop op die konifere. Spuit eerder voorkomend as om die skade in die Somer te sien.

Rake all the autumn leaves in the
garden beds to act as an extra cover for the cold days. When Spring comes the
leaves can be worked into the soil.

Why are we starting an online website or
presence?

We have been using Facebook and our
monthly newsletter since the very start of Plantarium Garden Centre to communicate anything
garden related.

We have decided to broaden our ‘garden’
and pursue the online world.

The past month we worked night and day to
get a working website with an online shop, gallery and other awesome links with
useful information.

We are looking forward to reach a bigger
audience and make it possible to get selected garden products 24 hours per day.

Anyone anywhere should be able to garden
anytime!!! No matter how far away from a garden centre.
